A number of potential players at the World Cup could be on Forests radar. This is purely theoretical, and we have looked at the logistical part of work permits for this exercise. But these following players could be potential talent to recruit from.
A disclaimer, we are in no way saying Forest are actually bidding for these
USA
There a few possible targets who are going to be eligible to play in the UK without work permits.
1) John Brooks
Currently with Hertha Berlin, with an American father and German mother has dual nationality. A 6'4 defender he does play in a position we already have covered and would surely want to be first team. Also Hertha are in the German top flight. That said he is still young, and a season loan might be an option.
2) Timmy Chandler
Recently relegated from the Bundesliga with Nurnberg, he also has an American father and German mother. He plays at right back. His loyalty is questionable as he dithered about which nationality to choose and the American fans aren't overly enamoured with his performances. He has been injured at the end of the season, but has recovered enough to be part of the squad (ahead of Lichaj)
3) Omar Gonzalez
Defender who is being linked with a move to Mexican club America. He is 6'5 and has 18 caps playing for L A Galaxy. Possibly more of a tricky target he'd surely get a work permit. He had time before in Germany with Nurnberg. He as said is being strongly linked with a move away, thought in position we have plenty of players.
Note: Terrence Boyd, cut from squad but perfect fit as a striker with German passport
Australia
The advantage with Australia, is a large number of players have European parents, or grand parents, meaning possible candidates for dual nationality. (Like James Demetriou we have on our books) so here are a few potential Aussies (though they might not get work permits)
4) Adam Taggart
20 year old Newcastle Jets striker, who was the A-League golden boot in 2014. He only has a handful of caps for Australia but in those 4 games he has scored 3 goals. Reports are that he is more than likely that he is going to make a move to Europe this season, and although most Aussies opt for Holland or Germany, it could be a chance to secure a hot young talent. He would cost £400,000 according to Australian sources.
5) James Holland
Australian midfielder who currently plays for Rapid Vienna. When the reports that Pearce had been seen scouting a Rapid Vienna game, some suggested that the Australian was the real target, who only has a year left on his deal. He ha spoken about hoping the World Cup can secure him a move, and although, he speaks about a bigger League we could hope to persuade him that Forest are that chance. Holland is a midfielder with 12 caps, he plays deeper defensive role.
Midfielder who plays for Real Espana and is 24 years old. He has had loan spells in Europe with Valenga (Norway) and Anderlecht (Belgium) not settling at either and a spell last year with Seattle Sounders in the MLS. At 24 he may be ripe for picking form Honduras, and with 31 caps would easily get a work permit.
Bosnia
A number of Bosnia players due to the war in the 90's were born overseas. So therefore they have dual nationality which makes them work permit exempt.
9) Muhamed Besic
Plays for Ferencvaros in Hungary but German born. Besic can play centre back or midfield. He started his career with Hamburg and after not making the grade ended up in Hungary. He is the youngest player to have been chosen by Bosnia, but there remains questions over temperament from his time in Germany. Spurs were linked at the start of this season, though nothing seems to have come of that.
10) Anel Hadzic
Midfielder who plays in Austria for Sturm Grz, he holds dual nationality with an Austrian passport. 24 years old he previously played for SV Ried. His number 10 for Graz impies an attacking midfielder like Lansbury, and should Lansbury go, then someone of this ilk could be a ideal replacement, or replace Majewski who might well now be surplus.
Others
11) Karim Ansarifard
Iranian striker, on loan at Tractor Sazi from Persepolis. He has over 40 caps for Iran so would surely get a work permit. Theres always the added element that the media would lap up Kuwaiti owners buying Iranian players being as they suggested we wanted to created a Middle Easter XI when Fawaz took over. Not a prolific striker and would take time to to adjust but at 24 years old time is on his side.
12) Azubuike Egwuekwe
Not an easy name to pronounce, he plays in Nigeria for Warri Wolves, and is a towering 6'5. Perfect for our defence which isn't the tallest. He has 22 caps for Nigeria so would possibly get a work permit, and coming from a Nigerian side would surely not cost a huge transfer fee.
We couldn't do this without linking at least Algerian, so here is French born Cadamuro-Bentaiba, who plays for Mallorca in the Spanish second division. He can play right back, which is helpful as well as centre back, and is 26 years old. As he is French born, work permits would not be an issue.

also notable, although cut from the squad Josh Brillante is attracting lots of European interest, and does hold an Italian passport, but he isn't at the World Cup.
Honduras
A team whose performances and ranking is therefore doing well and would make easier to get work permits, a few players have a number of caps and would therefore be eligible. We've seen a few Hondurans settle here with Wigan.

Defensive midfielder for Olimpia, he has apparently become an integral part of the team. Being based in Honduras a step up to a European team might be a chance to prove himself. As well in terms of wages and in terms of moving to Europe. Its tricky to know how much someone like Olimpia would charge. At 5'7 he isn't tall, which would stress a more combative midfielder. Just what we might need. He is 23 years old and presently has 18 caps
