12 Released Premier League Players For Forest to Consider

Chuks Aneke
Release by Arsenal, the 20 year old midfielder/striker  was compared to Abou Diaby by Wenger. His 16 goals arguably kept Crewe in League One this season, and he could play as a strong front man for Forest, at 6'3 he is an aerial threat. Aneke has mainly played his career on loan, so a prolonged period of play Crewe helped him no end. He may be a bit of an unpolished diamond that would take some work, but being an Arsenal academy graduate he'd have obviously on ball ability.

Nathan Delfouneso
We need a striker or two and Villa have released Delfouneso. He's never been prolific but he's never been settled after years on loan, or on Villa's fringes. Ex England u-21 which means Pearce will know him well. Tall and agile would offer something different from what we have. The line of Pearce anting young hungry English players would fit him well.

Sam Hutchinson
Should need little introduction as played here last season. Would give extra right back options. Chelsea have released him, and an offer as pay as you play with his injury track record may be pertinent. Looked class with us, just has questionable knees. He played a number of games for Sheffield Wednesday last year. Would be a welcome addition for most.

Hutchinson

Daniel Gabbidon
Been there done that central defender that Palace have let go. Would be sought after by Championship clubs, but whether we need him is another matter. Experience he has would be key. Gabbidon is 34, so any deal would surely be a short term one, and would probably rest on Lascelles staying or going, or Collins moving on.

Apostolos  Vellios
Young Greek striker being released by Everton. At 22/23 he hasn't made the grade there, not playing for the Toffee's at all last season. He wasn't great at all on loan spells either, but he's made a number of appearances for Everton, and for free its relatively low risk if the wages aren't high.  Has a point to prove.

Steve Sidwell
Fulham have released Sidwell despite him being an almost a fixture of the side just relegated. He would offer another option in midfield, but probably only likely should Lansbury leave the club. He would probably be on large wages, but at 32 still has a few years left (mind you so did Greening)

Matty Fryatt
Couldn't leave off the list, long term target Fryatt is a free agent after Hull released him. We wouldn't be his only suitor of course, but we have courted him for close on a decade. It feels longer. His name has been mentioned several times and he has previous in promotion campaigns, so it would look a likely fit.

Shola Ameobi
Released by Newcastle, the Nigerian international has never been prolific, but is also Newcastles third top Premier League scorer of all time. He may try and have his sights on retaining his place as a Premier League player, but he has top level experience and is free, wages would likely be high however.

Matty Etherington
Available after being released by Stoke, at 32 his best days are behind him, but he is still a dangerous left winger. He could act as cover or as a role model for Paterson, and as an extra option. He is possibly going to be on high wages however. Might be worth a look for a short term deal.

Keiren Westwood
Irish keeper released by Sunderland. If Darlow were to be sold, would be extremely capable replacement, and competition with de Vries. If Darlow is to stay then largely pointless, but several clubs are linked with our keeper so one to consider.

Westwood

Liam Ridgewell
Can plays in left back or centre back, but would probably demand high wages. Not quite what we need, but still an improvement on likes of Harding or Collins, so not to be sniffed at. Experienced and played most of career in top flight.

Jack Collison
West Ham player can play in midfield. At 25 he isn’t a fresh face, but has missed swathes of seasons before with injuries. Didn't appear for the Hammers last year but played on loan at Bournemouth and Wigan (appearing in their FA Cup semi) would be a brilliant player to have as rotation for Vaughan or Reid to rest them. Doesn't have best fitness record, so shorter term deals.

Collison

  1. Collison & Hutchinson would do nicely if they could stay fit. I like these articles but you should indulge in some sort of self-punishment for suggesting Ameobi. I need a hot shower just from imagining it...
