Well, another away game another defeat. I can't help thinking last years demons from Christmas onward are back.
This always looked a tricky fixture for the Reds. Portsmouth have picked up some form and with Forests dodgy away record it never looked a likely place to win.
It seems we will have to rely on fortress City Ground to keep us up near the upper half until we find some kind of fix to this away problem.
Many are blaming the tactics used away from home, but remember we had a stellar away run as well last year.
Portsmouth took the lead through Ibrahim Sonko's opener. How familiar now is that we concede from a corner, or any ball in that is. Sonko rising highest to put in Forest rejects Lawrence corner.
It didn't take too long Forest to level the match. Paul Anderson with a diving header from a McGugan cross to bring the Reds back level.
Pompey went in front, and scored what was ultimately the winner through Liam Lawrence, released by Forest as a kid, and apparently according to some sources very bitter at Forest about this, and so this goal would have been all the sweeter from the Retford born winger. His shot drilled through the area and maybe deflected past camp.
Its not defeat that is as deflating as some. Forest are failing to put together a run of form though consistently home and away to move forward and up the league. Stuttering by winning home and losing away will mean we merely flounder in mid table. The turn from away draws to defeats now is somewhat of a worry. It may be too late to catch the leaders before this away form is sorted out, whether a change of outlook, a bit of form and a rise in confidence or fresh blood into the mix is open for debate, probably a combination of all.
