A Forest win on a damp cold October evening which will not live long in the memory. It was a slow starter this game. Nothing really much happening at first. It took a long time for Forest to even have a shot (on target or otherwise) with Cohens effort that sailed over the bar. This resulted in ironic cheers all around as an increasingly restless crowd wanted more from the Reds.
Middlesbrough had showed dangerous hints in the first half. Lita missing a wonderful chance after Tavares should also had done better. Desperate defending and indecision by Boro stopped them scoring on this occasion.
As the second half wore on Forest started to assert themselves, and started to look good. Blackstock missing a great chance after getting clear of the defence and then dragging his shot wide of the far post.
The best effort of the first half cam e from Radoslaw Majewski, who after a lay off from Cohen lashed a left footed drive against the bar that bounced down, but didn't go in. If t had gone i, it would have been typical majewski wonder goal. A shot unexpected and out of next to nothing that was so close to being 1-0, and featuring on all the goal of the week video reels.
The second half and Forest looked the much better team and the more likely to win. When the goal did come it came from a free kick out wide. Cohen and McGugan stood over the ball for McGugan to thump the ball across a crowded 6 yard box. Whether it was a shot or a ball drilled straight across hoping for any touch to take it in, I am still undecided (more so after seeing replays on Sky Sports News) but the fact remains that McGugan is on form, and scoring goals. Even if it was merely a speculative effort it is his goal.
Bertrand received a yellow for the heinous act of waiting for a substitution occur. Everyone else in the ground knew what was happening bar the referee. Bertrand taking a throw held on as he believed the change was being made, however the ref interpreted this as time wasting and ridiculously booked the left back.
Boro had some scrappy chances at their end, notably a huge scramble in the area that Moussi eventually thumped clear. Forest too had more chances, Adebola, who looked lively after coming on, having a good effort late on.
All in all a deserved win for Forest, in a game that although wasn't a 'must win' was important to get back to winning ways.
