So Forest have finally gotten a win for the season. About time too. Some of the football we have been playing has more than deserved this win. Now we have it. But first we had a match against Millwall
Forest 1 v 1 Millwall
What is it about tall rangey strikers and beating us in the air. It's been the same for as long as I remember. Niall Quinn and Duncan Ferguson always used to score against us. Right through time till Rob Hulse in recent times. And now Steve Morison. He gave the back two a torrid time in the air, resulting in his early goal. It seemed all rather easy, ball in from the flank and a powerful header past Camp.
But we didn't let this early set back beat us, even if Dexter Blackstock skyed a penalty. How he missed so badly I am unsure, but that was one of the most stonewall penalties you will ever see the way their defender scythed down Tyson.
Earnshaw was a loss in the first half, a striker of his calibre always will be, and had he been on the pitch with some of the chances, maybe we may have scored earlier than 80 mins. The chances we had before this were numerous, finding a goalkeeper in top form stopping 3 in close succession being his one particular highlight.
When it came it was one of those goals you are so used to seeing ruled out neeedlessly because the keeper claimed to be impeded. However the ref decreed that Blackstocks header from a very high and looping Cohen cross was legit.
That didn't stop us trying to throw it away shortly after by presenting a wonderful chance for Millwall to take the lead, only for an easy shot from 12 yards to go wide.
Preston 1 v 2 Forest
I'll make it clear from the start I wasn't there and listened on the radio. Forest played well early, creating a gilt edged chance for Tyson to miss. And as usual, you listen in rapt attention, hearing we are on top, for the opposition to get up the other end and get a goal. As said in the Millwall review, we don't do well against the big physical striker so I was worried what Parkin would do to us. He got the goal, but that about all.
The second half would be the Lewis McGugan show
McGugan took his chance in the team to score two vital goals that gave Forest their first win. Its testimony to the overplayed ridiculousness of the "crisis" that we now are 3 points behind the playoffs. Anyway, McGugan, the much maligned but always loved at the same time. Scored the goals that took us to victory and took them well. Maybe he could have got a hat trick, but the radio does always somewhat overplay these things.
And so we now have the first away win since the beginning of January, and the first win of the season. Lets hope this blows the cobwebs off our season, and we really get motoring.
